The 15th annual San Diego Brew Fest returns to NTC Park in Liberty Station on Saturday, August 8th, with over 70 breweries pouring 200 different beers, 10 of San Diego's best food trucks, cover bands, and lawn games running throughout the afternoon.
If you like beer or cider and live music, as well as enjoying San Diego's great weather, this is an event you don't want to miss.
Unfortunately, I'll be out of town and will miss this one — but I've been previous years and it's genuinely a fun event. The kind of Saturday afternoon that reminds you why San Diego has such a strong craft beer scene in the first place.
The lineup
Over 70 breweries pouring 200 different beers is a lot to get through in a four-hour session. If you're new to the local beer scene, this is a strong crash course. Some of my favorite breweries will be there, including Society Brewing Company, Fall Brewing Company, and Helix Brewing Co. — I'd start there before you branch out.
Ten of San Diego's best food trucks will be on site (food sold separately), and the lineup covers the range: smash burgers, wood-fired pizza, gourmet hotdogs, Greek food, and tacos. Trucks confirmed for this year include Big Smash Burger, Big Oven Pizza, Doggos Gus, and The Groovy Greek. Cover bands and lawn games run throughout the afternoon, so it's easy to make a full afternoon of it without planning a bunch of separate stops.
Why the location makes it
Liberty Station is one of the more walkable neighborhoods on the Point Loma peninsula, and that changes the entire feel of the event. You can walk over to Liberty Public Market beforehand, grab a coffee at one of the local spots, or check out Stone Brewing's location for a nightcap on the way out. The parks and open space around the campus give you plenty of room to spread out if you need a break from the crowds.
For anyone who's been thinking about what it's like to actually live in the Liberty Station or greater Point Loma area, wandering around before or after the event is a pretty good introduction. It's one of the few San Diego neighborhoods where the everyday walkability really lines up with the pitch.

Who this is for
If you're a San Diegan who hasn't done this event yet, put it on the list. If you're moving here or thinking about buying in the Point Loma or Liberty Station area, this is a good excuse to spend a Saturday afternoon in the neighborhood and see it at its best. And if you're just looking for a solid weekend plan that leans into what makes San Diego San Diego — good beer, great weather, no rush — it's hard to beat.
